Powerlifting is a big part of Warehouse Gym & Fitness. While we’re a fitness centre that services a broad range of the community with many different needs, our powerlifting community is very important to us.
What Is Powerlifting?
Powerlifting is one of the three main types of competitive lifting – the other two being Olympic weightlifting and bodybuilding. Powerlifting is a sport and exercise that focuses on lifting the heaviest possible weights. Not traditionally used to just build muscle, the practice of powerlifting involves perfecting specific lifting techniques and can be incorporated into different gym and fitness routines. Powerlifting takes place in three major movement patterns:
-
The Bench Press. Performed on a flat bench and utilising the upper body muscles like chest and arms.
-
The Squat. Mainly focusing on the legs and glutes, and
-
The Deadlift. This lift requires pulling strength from your entire body with particular emphasis on your back and legs.
Powerlifting may appear quite simple but is actually a complex exercise in form and strength. A never-ending quest for perfection of technique as every weight increase demands a more skilful display of balance, mobility, and power.
Why Are So Many People Giving Powerlifting A Go?
-
It increases your strength, which can help you become a more confident person.
-
It allows you to become part of a vibrant and welcoming community of dedicated lifters
-
The high intensity activity burns a lot of fat
-
It Increases your bone density. Decreasing your likelihood of musculoskeletal conditions like osteoporosis as you get older
-
It gives you a chance to challenge yourself. Testing the true potential of your body.

Become A Powerlifter
In recent years there has been a massive growth in the popularity of powerlifting and here at Warehouse Gym and Fitness we provide the opportunity for you to practice powerlifting 24 hours a day, 365 days a week. Previously seen as somewhat of a niche sport, powerlifters today come from all age groups as the benefits of powerlifting are becoming increasingly understood and appreciated
Of course, powerlifting, which can be generally broken into 3 facets, bench press, squats and deadlift – that each identify and focus on different areas of the body, will improve your strength and size but beyond these physical improvements there are other more subtle benefits for both mental and physical well-being. A key motivator for many is the effect powerlifting can have on the likelihood of suffering osteoporosis, as persistent powerlifting increases the density of your bones, reducing their susceptibility to the condition.
Furthermore, powerlifting is a great stress reliever and good for your mental health and at WGF you will become a part of a supportive and motivating community of powerlifters, whether you are a complete novice or an experienced competitive lifter. And to aid your progress we have a team of highly experienced powerlifting coaches who are always on hand to offer guidance and advice.
